Thank you IRC. I am one of your countless beneficiaries. IRC became my official "sponsor", in Vienna in November 1956 (where I met Mr. Faust and his staff), guaranteeing to the US Government that I would never go on the public dole. Help continued during my New York City stay in December. IRC took on risk with me, but after 2 weeks in NYC in an IRC-paid hotel (room and board), I was off the rolls, gone to an English language course and then on to a great college.

But those first few weeks were crucial to my survival. IRC fed me, housed me; its sponsorship enabled me to enter the US and to put both feet on the ground in the New World.

Many of my fellow refugees and friends were also sponsored by IRC in late '56 and in 1957, with similar results.

Thanks IRC and happy birthday. May your invaluable work continue in the future.
