Anna Husarska, International Rescue Committee senior policy advisor, wrote a Web-exclusive guest commentary about the growing chaos in Somalia for Newsweek’s Web site. The piece was posted last Thursday. Husarska compares Somalia to the crisis in Iraq, noting that the humanitarian consequences may be even more dramatic than in Iraq. A solution will not be easy, Husarska writes but “everything and anything must be done lest another few years in Mogadishu look like the past few years in Baghdad.”

Husarska also wrote an August 31 opinion piece on Somalia for Slate.com. “The country has not had any government, local or otherwise, for 16 years,” Husarska writes. “And in Somalia, the quintessential failed state, security is even scarcer than water.”.
